We, the Recter family are in a major season of change! I'm excited to share it with you and ask you to pray for us as we continue through this journey! I know my last update was in April, so this one is long overdue! (If you don't feel like reading it all, skip to the end, it's the best part!!)
I'll go by person to try to have some sense of order...
Jesse - has graduated from high school! We will miss the Friday night football games and various school events! He is joining the air force and is waiting on his call to leave! It can be any day now, so we are all spending as much time with him as we can. We are very proud of him!
Corey - is still currently staying with us and has done well in the last few months! He has continued to improve his position at work since starting in March! He has also bought a car and working on living on a budget! We are very proud of him as well!
Sammy - turned 4 and has started school! I am doing a combination of pre-k and kindergarten work with him, determined by what level of each subject he is on. We are doing well with it and are confident in our decision to home school! He is growing more and more! He is excited about Baby Joy and we are excited for the transition into big-brother for him :)
Baby Joy - is doing well! She is very active and measuring correctly at each visit! We are starting to get together the things we still need for her and make plans for her arrival, which we expect around November 5!
My parents - big changes for them as well! They are looking at buying property here in the Lubbock area so are transitioning into their RV again! Mom is still weak and healing from battling cancer, but slowly improving!
Grandma - big change for her and us as we moved her into a nursing home a few weeks ago! It was a difficult decision for me, but one that I see now was the right one for all of us. She is in so much better hands, not because I wasn't willing but because they are much better equipped for her. She has lost use of her hands now as well as everything else, so the care that she needs was beyond that which I and her caregiver could give her. She now gets to have a shower regularly, (bed baths here due to my bathroom not being set up or big enough to accommodate her), she is participating in group activities with her peers and has a team of doctors to make sure she is being cared for with top-notch care! The home is about a mile from us, so we get to see her regularly!
Me - I have been working hard and trying to adjust to all the changes! This pregnancy has been much more challenging than my pregnancy with Sam! I am tired easily and have pain and nauseousness still regularly. I wasn't ready for him to come at all, but I am ready for Joy! There is a confidence we have with anticipating her birth that definitely didn't exist with Sam, so that helps!
I am working with a lender to try to get our approval for a mortgage! We should hear something soon!
I am also preparing to start working with a home-based company that I'm very excited about! More on that soon, but it will be great to contribute financially. The money I was earning from caring for Grandma is no longer, so we are adjusting to living on one income. Anything I do now most likely won't replace that, but anything will help :) I am still dreaming of starting my own company!
Les! - is recovering well from his accident in February. He is no longer walking with a cane, no longer on medication, no longer having to do weekly blood work, and no longer on physical restrictions! He had the filter in his chest removed a few weeks ago and had no complications from that surgery. He has developed some swelling and pain on the side where he had the most trauma to his body since being lifted from physical restrictions and resuming regular workouts. He had a CT scan this week to see what's causing that and we will see the doctor soon to come up with a plan. Hopefully after that, we will officially have everything behind us as far as the accident is concerned!
We had a wonderful time celebrating his birthday this year! We went all out because we are so thankful to have him around to celebrate it!
This week he took an entrance test to start the Police Academy! He passed it very well and will be starting night school in November! He will continue working full time and going to school for 4 hours at night during the week from November 2016 through August 2017. His goal from there is to become a deputy with the Lubbock Sheriff's Department! This is an exciting and anxiety filled time for us! We know the challenges this will bring but we are excited to see how these changes will positively impact our family. We know that now isn't exactly the ideal time for someone to want to become a law enforcement officer, but that's precisely why he wants to do it. He wants to serve his community and do what he can to make it a better place. I stand by him and support him fully because of this and because I know he will be good at it. I've always felt my place would be in support to my husband who would also be serving in some way. Ministry has different faces and this will be his! We ask for you prayers as we prepare for this and as we go through this next challenging year and that God would provide financially for tuition.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Thank you for being apart of our lives and loving and supporting us!
